[SCOTUS] Needed: bodies in the street, this Sunday, Portland

Can you hear us, Senator Collins? NO ON KAVANAUGH!!

It seems almost every day there is new evidence of criminality in the White House, with Republicans ever more cravenly running defense for Donald Trump. They are now intent on fast-tracking the Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Brett Kavanaugh, a judge who has explicitly written that a sitting President should be above the law. There is a sense that Kavanaugh’s confirmation cannot be stopped, and as such what is the point of making the effort? It is easy to get depressed.

This is not over until it is over, and almost as importantly we need to force Senator Collins into the limelight so that if she betrays her constituents it will be remembered in 2020. One reason Republicans became so strong in the House and Senate, and we are in this position now, is because they played the long game. If we are to take back our democracy, we have to do the same.

Concerned citizens need to make the effort to join one of the nationwide ‘Unite for Justice’ protests this Sunday. Lincoln County Indivisible is sending a delegation to the gathering at 1 pm in front of Portland City Hall, departing from Hannaford’s in Damariscotta at 11.30 am. If you are willing to drive and have spare seats, or are willing to come and are looking for a seat, please contact Nigel Calder at 207-563-2184, or 401-215-5603.

We appear to be approaching a critical turning point in the history of our Republic. From now at least through the November elections, we need all hands on deck to defend our democracy.

We need a flood of letters to the editor in the coming weeks. We will shortly suggest talking points. We need to ceaselessly call and lobby our senators, and especially Susan Collins. More on this to follow. But for now the most immediate need is to put bodies on the street in Portland on Sunday. Please make the effort and join us. If you can provide a ride, or need a ride, please call Nigel at 207-563-2184 or 401-215-5603.
